IASTM Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
Detecting And Treating Soft Tissue Dysfunction
Are you experiencing soft tissue dysfunction? At Bryce Olson Physical Therapy, we have the knowledge and experience to safely and effectively treat conditions using IASTM.
IASTM or Instrument-Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization incorporates the use of stainless-steel instruments to aid the clinician in the detection and treatment of soft tissue dysfunction.
This is a non-invasive, clinically proven technique combined with rehabilitation exercises that improve muscle function, increase strength, improves range of motion, and reduces pain for a faster return to normal activity.
You are welcome to request an appointment with us if you are interested in learning if instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization may be beneficial for your condition.
Texas now supports direct access for physical therapy!
Referral is no longer needed to evaluate and treat patients. However, when a referral is needed, we have in-house Providers who can see you and provide the referral.
How Does IASTM Work and is it Painful?
The instruments used in IASTM are designed to detect and treat areas of soft tissue restriction or dysfunction. During the treatment, the therapist will apply controlled pressure and gentle strokes with the instrument over the affected area to break down scar tissue, adhesions, or fascial restrictions. While some patients may experience mild discomfort or a sensation of pressure during the procedure, it should not be intolerable or excessively painful.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) may cause some discomfort during treatment, but it typically shouldn’t be painful. The level of discomfort can vary depending on factors such as the severity of the soft tissue dysfunction being treated, your pain tolerance, and the skill and technique of the therapist performing the procedure.
It’s essential to communicate with your therapist during the treatment session. If you experience any discomfort that is too intense or concerning, be sure to let your therapist know so they can adjust the pressure or technique accordingly. Additionally, post-treatment soreness or tenderness in the treated area is common but should typically resolve within a day or two.
